The River Valley STEAM Academy will host two major events over the next few days.
One of those events is today, as the academy will host a roundtable with area leaders. Taking part in the Roundtable discussion today will be Indiana County Chamber President Mark Hilliard, and representatives from CNX Resources, REA Energy, Pitt, the Community College of Allegheny County, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Westinghouse. Also attending the roundtable today is the director of Career and Technical Education for the state department of education, Judd Pittman. Byron Staffuer with the office of planning and development will moderate the proceedings.
The other event will be held tomorrow as the STEAM academy will celebrate the grand opening of the new CVS Skills Lab. The space is designed to replicate an actual CVS pharmacy and offer on-the-job training and real-world experience for high school students pursuing a career in healthcare. This lab is the first of its kind in Pennsylvania and provides an immersive environment for students seeking pharmacy technician certification. This event is happening in conjunction with the Steam Academy’s open house.
