The state Senate earlier this week amended a bill that will be geared towards enhancing security across Pennsylvania schools.
Senate Bill 907 was added to an omnibus school code bill that was a part of the recently-passed state budget, and it ensures that all schools across the commonwealth have at least one armed security officer in the building. Those officers can be either a school police officer, school resource officer, or school security guard. They will be required to undergo background investigations prior to being hired, along with maintaining proper certification and they must be certified in position-specific training each year.
The amendment passed 30-19-1 with Senator Joe Pittman among those voting in favor.
