Indiana took the momentum early and never let up in their WPIAL semifinal game against Montour. Jake Slebodnick reports.
Coach Dan Petroff says Indiana is making a name for itself.
Petroff has a deep pitching staff and is confident in all of his hurlers, so he wasn’t surprised at the performance of Ryan Okopal.
Petroff liked the way his offense took control early.
Okopal says they were never concerned about being the 9th seed coming into the tournament, and they still aren’t.
Andrew McGee had five RBIs in the game. He says they’ve always believed in themselves.
Ben Ryan says the Indians knew they’d have to be “up” for the game.
Indiana has played North Catholic twice this season, losing 2-1 and 3-2 on April 22nd and 23rd. North Catholic won the Section 4 regular season title in 4A with a 9-1 record, with Indiana finishing second in the Section at 7-3.
SOFTBALL
The District 6 AA semifinal softball game between Marion Center and West Shamokin will be this afternoon, and it’s a big one. Marion Center won both of the times they played this season, 1-0, in back-to-back games. The Stingers are the third seed and the Wolves are seeded second, and the winner of the game will automatically qualify for the state tournament. Top seed Bald Eagle beat Northern Cambria, 3-0 yesterday to advance to the other semifinal, where they will play Penns Valley on Friday.
Marion Center softball and Homer-Center baseball are the last two Indiana County teams in the District 6 playoffs. The second seeded Wildcats will take on number three West Branch in the AA semifinals tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock at First Commonwealth Bank Field. That game will also be on Renda Digital TV, beginning at 2:45.
