Indiana came up with a big win in the WPIAL Quad-A baseball playoffs on a hot Monday night at North Allegheny High School. Jake Slebodnick recaps the shutout win.
Indiana coach Dan Petroff liked the toughness on the mound by Greg Minnick, Sully Van Hoose, and Ben Ryan.
Petroff says Indiana is anticipating another big night tonight.
Ryan says this has been a great run for Indiana in his senior season.
Ryan says there is a special team chemistry built over the years with this group of players.
Montour, which won the state championship two years ago, fell behind Latrobe 4-0 in the top of the first, but answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the inning and beat the Wildcats, 9-5. First pitch for tonight’s game is at 7 o’clock at Plum.
DISTRICT 6 BASEBALL
Portage scored a run in the 8th to stop Blacklick Valley, 6-5.
DISTRICT 6 SOFTBALL
Marion Center clipped Cambria Heights in the District 6 playoffs yesterday. Todd Marino has the story.
(3-2 win. MC will play next-door neighbor West Shamokin on Thursday afternoon in the Double-A semifinals.)
Only two teams will advance out of District 6 into the state tournament, so Thursday’s game at West Shamokin will be an elimination game.
West Shamokin fell behind Mount Union 3-0 before scoring a run in the third and 8 in the 4th to break open their game. Four more runs in the 6th made it 13-3 and ended the game. Malena Stewart had 3 hits, including two doubles, and Maria Young had 3 hits with a double. Aleya Talmadge and Lily Jordan each had 2 hits for the Wolves as well.
In Class A, Claysburg-Kimmel pummeled Penns Manor, 15-0.
In AAA, top seed Forest Hills eliminated River Valley, 13-3.
