F. Paul Wolfe was born on July 10, 1934. His parents were James D. Wolfe and Genevieve (Patterson) Wolfe.
He was born in Rayne Twp., Indiana County. He went to school at Rayne Twp. For six years and then at Marion Center for six years. He graduated in 1952 with honors. He also was given the DeKalb award for being an outstanding student.
That year he also played in the FFA State Band, placed seventh place in the FFA state public speaking contest, and was elected to be the state officer in the Pennsylvania FFA. He was the first FFA boy ever to be elected to a state office from Indiana County.
Upon graduation he and his father farmed several farms together. While farming, he also attended Indiana University. On October 15, 1956 he started working for Westinghouse in Blairsville. Much of his time was spent working in the atomic division.
He graduated from IUP in January in 1965 and with a masters in 1967. From 1965 until 1982 he held many positions at McCreary Tire, Indiana Senior High School, Punxsy High School, Penn State University, Agway and FMC in Homer City. He had his own trucking business until he retired. After retiring, he returned and operated the family farm.
He has been a member of Grove Chapel Lutheran Church all of his life. He has sung in the choir, served on the council numerous times, taught Sunday School, and was Sunday School Superintendent at the age of seventeen. He has been president of the Grove Chapel Cemetery for over forty years.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents, his brother: Richard, Richard’s wife: Annabelle, and an infant brother: James.
He is survived by his wife of many years, Betsy, his children: Ronald; Debra and Kimberly; Step children: Malinda, Mark, Kristen and Amy Anderson. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren.
Paul would also like to acknowledge the teachers that formed a large portion of his life. Grade school teachers: Mrs. Shaffer, Miss McElhoes, Mrs. Rhea, and Mrs. Hildbrand. Junior High School teachers: Mrs. Raybuck, Mr. Streams; High School teachers: Mr. Koziel, Mr. Steffy, and Mr. Munnell; College; Mr. Lewis, and Dr. Vowels. He would like to express his sincere thanks to his wife, Dorothy (Betsy) for the 46 great years that they were privileged to share together. The family get togethers were great. We were also able to visit fifty states, many islands in the South Pacific, and several European countries.
Besty and I have been greatly honored with all of our children’s and grandchildren’s achievements.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 AM until Noon at the Grove Chapel Lutheran Church. Paul’s funeral service will begin at Noon with Rev. Dr. Paul Morris officiating. Burial will be private in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grove Chapel Lutheran Church.
