Days after reporting a scam involving the likeness of Indiana Borough Mayor William Simmons, Indiana Borough Police report another scam making its rounds.. This time, the scammer represents… them.
Officers say in a Facebook post that a man made a phone call to a borough resident representing himself as “Chief Justin Schawl” and requested information within a certain time limit, or else they would be arrested.
The number that is being used is not known at this time but they know it is for “an unlawful purpose.”
Residents are reminded that officers are dressed in full uniform and drive marked patrol vehicles, and they can call the Indiana County Emergency Management Authority at 724-349-1428 to check the on-duty status of any officer contacting them by phone. Indiana Borough Police also reiterate that they will never order someone to pay to prevent arrest.
Anyone who is contacted by this person is asked to report it to police immediately.
