Indiana Borough Police officers are warning residents about an email scam that fraudulently uses the likeness of an elected official.
Police say they were notified of someone representing Indiana Borough Mayor William Simmons sent out emails asking for gift cards. The email address contains the name “Mayor Simmons”, but it is not an official Indiana Borough email account, nor is it a personal account from Simmons.
Officers add Mayor Simmons will not solicit money for any cause over email.
An investigation is ongoing, and anyone receiving this type of email is asked to not respond to it.
