Indiana County’s Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate went up by half a percentage point over the month of February.
February’s rate is 4.0 percent, which is still lower than February of 2023, which was 5.3 percent. By comparison, the statewide unemployment rate remained steady at 3.4 percent, and the national rate went up two-tenths of a percentage point to 3.9 percent.
Indiana’s unemployment rate is the highest in the region. Armstrong County’s rate is 3.4 percent, Clearfield County checked in with a 3.5 percent rate, Jefferson County’s rate is 3.6 percent, and Cambria checked in with 3.8 percent.
The highest rate in the state is Forest County at 4.7 percent while the lowest rate is 2.2 percent in Fulton County.
The total number of non-farm jobs in the county were up 1200 to 29,500 in February. The biggest jump was seen in the Government sector, as the number went up by 900. Hospitality jobs also increased by 200, with each being seen as seasonal jumps. The other seven industry super sectors went unchanged over the month.
