The Pennsylvania Commission of Crime and Deliquency has announced that over $40 million in violence intervention and prevention grants will be distributed to 64 organizations across the state to address gun violence, and some of that money will come to Indiana County.
The VIP Grant program started in 2021 and is overseen by the commission’s School Safety and Security Committee. The funding is meant to help programs that prevent, intervene in, and reduce gun and group-related violence in efforts to make communities safer places. This current round of funding was opened up to applications last November.
The YMCA of Indiana County received $928,813 in state funding in this year’s distribution.
