Samuel L. Kimmel, 73, of Shelocta, passed away Sunday, February 18th, 2024. Sam passed away at his favorite place in the world-The Kimmel Family Farm.
He was born May 12th, 1950, in Indiana, PA, son of John Warner Kimmel and Charlotte (Bicker) Kimmel.
Sam is survived by the love of his life, Mandy Graham Kimmel, and children Jennifer (Malic), Matthew (Sarah) and Kayla (Nick); Grandchildren Kaylin, Emma, Molly, Evan and Cassidy.
Sam was one of ten children. Predeceased by his sister Cholly and his brother Tim and survived by Tom (Ellie), Rebecca (Bill), Karen (Eric), George (Loretta), Christine, Peg (Ron) and Jeff.
Sam was a proud graduate from Penn State University with a degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering. He was selected by the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences as a Centennial Fellow, one of only 23 recipients, in honor of that college’s 100th year anniversary. He was a member of the PSU men’s gymnastics team.
Sam was instrumental in the growth of Angerman Associates, from a small closely held independent gas producer to a significant supplier of natural gas in Pennsylvania, as president and CEO. Sam had a positive and life-changing impact on all those lucky enough to work with him. After his tenure at Angerman Associates, Sam formed SK Operating, Inc where he continued development of natural gas wells.
As a means to contribute to his profession, among other positions, Sam served as President, Secretary and Treasurer of IOGA of PA and as a member of the Board of Directors of IOGA of WV.
Sam was happiest spending time on the farm with Mandy, his tractors, horses, family and friends and a cold Coors Light. “Leave it better than when you found it” was his motto in life as evidenced by his restoration of the family homestead including the homes, barns, and fields.
Sam will be missed and fondly remembered by his contagious smile and twinkling blue eyes.
Private family services. A Celebration of Sam’s Life to be held in the future.
The Kimmel family is being assisted by Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory of Indiana.
