At the Homer-Center school board combined planning and voting meeting Thursday night, Superintendent Ralph Cecere said the district is considering applying for grant money.
Cecere said he and Business Manager Gregg Kalemba met with representatives from Senator John Fetterman’s office on Tuesday to express interest in applying for Renew American Schools grant funding, even asking for Fetterman’s support through letters and alerting the Department of Energy of the struggles brought on by the closure of the Homer City Generating Station. Cecere said the response from Fetterman’s officials was encouraging.
He adds the district is looking for state officials to support their cause by writing letters in support of their grant application. Last year, approximately $200 million was awarded in grant funds.
Preceding the combined session was Homer-Center’s reorganization meeting. Michael Bertig was re-elected president while Dan Fabin was elected vice president. Bertig also announced he was elected president for ARIN Intermediate Unit 28 at their recent meeting. He said he was grateful for all the support.
The board also swore in Fabin, Gerald Bertig, Christa Pontani Palmer, Fred Hayes, and E’milie Aires, who were all elected to the board in November.
