The family of an IUP Alumnus who is incarcerated in a Russian State Prison is asking for people to send him holiday cards.
In a post on the Freedom for Marc Fogel Facebook page, his sister Anne said that she would like to send the cards so he and the U.S. State Department knows that he is not forgotten. Fogel has been locked up for over two years for taking a small amount of medicinal marijuana into Russia to help with chronic pain while he was working there as a teacher.
Fogel, a native of Butler, graduated from IUP in 1984 with a degree in Social Studies Education, and taught history courses at schools attended by the children of U.S. diplomats in several countries. Recently, resolutions from Senator Bob Casey and Representative Chris Deluzio and legislation from Guy Reschenthaler have called for his release.
