Several different hearings are scheduled for today at Indiana County’s Courts, including a plea hearing for a man charged with weapons and controlled substance possession from a case last year.
Charges were filed against 43-year-old Douglas Walter Hutchins of Johnstown for an incident on November 19th of 2021. On that day, police in Indiana Borough found him with seven bags of suspected heroin, a small amount of crack cocaine and suspected crystal meth along with a prohibited offensive weapon and a crack pipe. He faces three counts of possession of a controlled substance, along with single counts of repairing, selling or possessing a prohibited offensive weapon, loitering or prowling and resisting arrest. This marks the fifth plea court hearing for Hutchins connected with this case. Should he enter not guilty pleas today, a jury trial is scheduled to start next Monday in Indiana County Court.
Also in court today will be two motions hearings for Kenneth Cobb. The 30-year-old Indiana man is charged with attempted escape, but a motion has been filed to dismiss the charge connected with an incident on October 19th of 2021. The other will be to dismiss charges of aggravated assault, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct for an incident one month earlier.
