Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman, Jr. has confirmed the identity of the man who died in an accident at a stone quarry in Young Township.
According to Overman’s report, 39-year-old Eric Matthew Komlosky , Sr. of Indiana died in the accident that happened at 10:24 AM on Friday at the Ridge Limestone Quarry. Komlosky was working inside a stone hopper when the operator of a high lift dumped a load of stone into the hopper, trapping him. The operator of the high lift and other co-workers did not know that he was inside the hopper.
Indiana County 911 dispatched the Iselin/West Lebanon, Saltsburg, Coal Run and Elderton fire departments along with LifeStat EMS at 10:27 for what was originally termed a “physical rescue.” State Police and the county coroner’s office were called in later to assist. Iselin/West Lebanon Fire Chief Brian Schirato said that the man was trapped in a limestone hopper and was unable to escape. He was among the first fire crews on-scene and described the measures they took to try to save his life.
The death was ruled accidental due to compression asphyxia. The McCabe Roof Funeral Home in Clymer will assist the family.
