At the IUP Council of Trustees meeting on Thursday, IUP’s President announced that he anticipates a high number of first-year students this year.
President Dr. Michael Driscoll said in his report that while admission numbers are not yet finalized, he expects first-year enrollment to be higher than the 2022-23 school year, which was the largest increase in five years. Driscoll talked about what he felt were the prime reasons for that positive result.
On the flip side of that coin, he reported that three out of every 10 first year students do not continue at IUP. He says that the establishment of the student success navigator program at IUP will be key to their retention efforts.
Student retention is one of President Driscoll’s seven goals that were endorsed by the council of trustees. The other six goals include growing market share in traditional markets; educating other student groups by opening new markets; growing IUP’s reputation; finding alternate revenue streams to support the work; engaging the internal and external IUP team in realizing the vision and focusing resources on the highest priorities to enable a sustainable, thriving future.
