The Pirates’ offense couldn’t get untracked against the Brewers’ Brandon Woodruff last night, as he threw seven two-hit shutout innings at them.
The series finale is this afternoon at PNC Park. The Pirates have not announced a starter, but it is Mitch Keller’s turn in the rotation. The Brewers counter with right-hander Freddy Peralta. It’s a 12:10 airtime, 12:35 first pitch on WCCS.
That much-anticipated matchup of Paul Skenes against Dylan Crews in Altoona’s game tomorrow against Harrisburg is going to have to wait for some other time. The Pirates announced yesterday that they have shut down Skenes for the season, but emphasized that it is not for health reasons. In a prepared statement, the team said that Skenes “checked all of the boxes” they had set for him for the season, and general manager Ben Cherington said that the move puts Skenes in “the best possible position to get into his offseason training and be in position to have a full 2024 season.”
