Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi announced that a woman pleaded guilty to charges connected with an overdose death in 2022.
Manzi announced that on Friday, 40-year-old Heidi Jo Millar of Indiana entered guilty pleas to felony charges of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. As part of that plea deal, a charge of drug delivery resulting in death will not be prosecuted.
Manzi said that on October 18th of 2022, Indiana Borough Police officers were called to a reported drug overdose in the 800 block of Oak Street in the borough. Despite the administration of Narcan and other life-saving measures, the victim passed away. When police investigated the victim’s death, they found that Millar had sold her the drugs that resulted in her death.
In a statement, Manzi called this type of case tough to investigate and prosecute due to a lack of witnesses. He added “Our law enforcement around the county work diligently in an attempt to bring the drug dealers to account for their part in the loss of live…The members of the Indiana Borough Police Department completed a very thorough and professional investigation that will cause Millar to face prison time for her actions and, hopefully, allow the family to continue the healing process.”
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 27th.
