Quinn Priester struggled again for the Pirates last night as he gave up six runs in just five innings in a 7-2 loss to the Mets.
Joe Block has the story.
Game two of the series is tonight. LHP Bailey Falter (0-7, 5.21 ERA) goes for the Bucs. LHP David Peterson (3-7, 5.61 ERA) pitches for New York. It’s a 6:45 airtime on WCCS.
Priester said execution was a major problem for him against the Mets.
In six starts, Priester has allowed 28 runs over 27.1 innings pitched and he’s allowed at least a run in seven innings. He said he knows he can pitch better.
Pirates’ 13th round draft pick Charles McAdoo was named Florida State League Player of the Week after mashing opposing pitchers in his first seven professional baseball games. McAdoo hit .625 with two home runs and eight RBI in 16 at-bats for Low-A Bradenton since the Pirates chose him in this year’s draft. His run headlined by a 6-for-6 performance August 8, which included two home runs.
Former Pirates first-round pick Travis Swaggerty signed a minor league deal with the Chicago White Sox yesterday. The Pirates drafted Swaggerty 10th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft but a series of injuries, migraines, and personal issues hindered his path to the majors. He appeared in just five games for the Pirates last season and collected a hit. He was designated for assignment July 17 and released two days later.
