At Tuesday’s meeting, Blairsville Borough Council had a lengthy discussion on a recent spate of high grass.
Councilman Ab Dettorre said that borough public works director Dave Fairman has had to write up several properties for neglecting to mow their lawns and letting grass get very high. Dettorre said that he felt the number of citations written for this particular violation was getting out of hand.
Currently, the borough can take a property owner to court only if they have racked up $1000 worth of fines. Borough Council President John Bertolino said that he would look into the ordinance and see if that threshold needs to be adjusted.
In other business, council approved giving Fairman the authority to spend $35,000 in liquid fuels money to purchase a new street sweeper. The current borough street sweeper was donated to Blairsville by Indiana Borough, but has outlived its usefulness and cannot be repaired.
