On Monday night, the Indiana School Board approved the budget for the next school year along with a 2% tax increase.
The increase is the first in a few years, but board vice president Julia Trimarchi Cuccaro said that the increase to 15.37 mils was not as high as it could have been.
The vote was 6-2 with Cinda Brode and Dr. Jim Shaffer voting against it. While Shaffer said that a tax increase would hurt the district’s citizens that are struggling financially, Brode said that the tax increase was not enough to get the district out of the financial dire straits they were in.
In other business, the board approved the installation of 41 vape detectors at the Junior and Senior High Schools at an estimated cost of $23,615.76 The actual value of the detectors are valued at about $51,00 and are being provided by DIRECTEC through a grant with Adagio Health.
