The River Valley School Board amended and approved a motion regarding the location of football games for the 2023 season.
The board voted to hold junior high, JV and varsity football games at the Saltsburg location for the upcoming season, with practices to be held at Widmar Field in Blairsville. The original motion called for both junior high and JV to play in Saltsburg while varsity played in Blairsville, however, that motion was amended.
Several varsity football players attended the meeting and spoke out in support of the move. One being quarterback Luke Woodring, who cited potential injuries and issues with the field itself.
Running back Gavin Burkhart also supported the move, saying there’s a risk that children could get hurt on equipment.
The vote went 8-to-1 with Anthony Conzano voting against it. River Valley opens its season August 25th hosting Conemaugh Township.
