Pennsylvania’s largest generation plant is decommissioning its coal units.
Officials with the Homer City Generation Plant said in a news release on Monday that its coal units will be decommissioned over a 90-day period. Consequently, a large number of layoffs are expected.
William Wexler, CEO and President of the generation plant, said in a statement that they did “everything possible to maintain our operations.”
State Representative Jim Struzzi said that he was disappointed with the news of the plant’s closure.
Struzzi added that not only would the local community be affected from the closure, but it would affect the stability of the country’s energy grid.
This is a developing story, and we will provide updates once they are available.
