Over $3 million will come to Indiana County for several municipal projects and purchases.
In a joint news release, State Senator Joe Pittman and State Representatives Jim Struzzi and Brian Smith say that West Wheatfield Township will receive a $500,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant to help with the cost of the replacement of the Caroline Street Bridge superstructure in Robinson. The fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable transportation system.
Several other grants were awarded from the Local Share Account funding, which was created by the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. It provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support municipal projects. The largest award, $1 million, will go to West Mahoning Township to construct a township building. Another $400,000 will go to the Indiana County Municipal Services Authority to upgrade the Rayne Township water treatment plant, and another $90,090 grant will be used to upgrade the plant in Pine township.
Other funding awards include:
- $344,000 to the Blairsville Municipal Authority for sanitary sewer rehabilitation along Liberty Street between 4th Avenue and Graff Street.
- $202,025 to Indiana Borough to replace the Marsh Run gabion.
- The Central Indiana County Water Authority was awarded $150,000 to replace the existing water line located along South Main Street in Homer City Borough;
- Indiana County received $150,000 for improvements to the Buttermilk Falls entrance road located in West Wheatfield Township;
- Clymer Borough was awarded $84,554 to purchase new street signs and parking meters.
- White Township received $94,977 for upgrades to Kennedy-King Park and $81,230 for a road safety improvement project; and
- Saltsburg Borough received $73,971 for a new tractor.
