Several area wrestlers shined during yesterday’s District VI Class AA tournament in Altoona.
Marion Center’s Liam Cornetto headlined all performances as he took down Juniata’s Taylor Smith on a 4-3 decision for the 139 pound championship. Gage Heilbrun took home 2nd in the 145 pound class and Camden Stewart earned fourth place in the 133 pound class.
Four United Lions qualified for the regional tournament while eight placed in the Top 10. Josef Garshnick took second in the 114 pound weight class, while Gideon Bracken took second in 121 pound class. Also qualifying for the regional tournament were Jacob Sombronski, who took fourth in the 107 weight class, and Michael Monty, who placed fifth in the 133 class.
River Valley had five wrestlers in the Top 10. Leading the way was Kaden Barnhart who took third in the 152 class. Brad Miller finished fifth in class 285, and three wrestlers placed sixth in their respective classes: Wyatt Taubler (107), Cole Stuchal (172), and Chase Stuchal (189).
