A motions hearing is scheduled today for one of the four suspects in the shooting at Carriage House Apartments in October of 2020.
21-year-old Terrion Gates of Johnstown is expected to go before Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco today for the omnibus pre-trial motions hearing, but court documents say that yesterday, he has requested a continuance of that hearing. It’s not known at this time if the continuance was granted.
Gates is charged with criminal homicide and robbery-inflicting serious injury, and conspiracy to both theft and robbery in connection with the shooting death of Jadeyn Wright on October 17th of 2020. He along with 20-year-old Isaiah Moore of Philadelphia, 18-year-old Isabella Edmonds of Indiana, and 20-year-old Delmar Chatman of Johnstown allegedly went to get some marijuana from Wright but the encounter lead to Wright’s death. The four fled on foot after the shooting.
Gates was the final suspect to be apprehended in connection with the shooting. He does have a status conference scheduled for March 15th and his trial is scheduled for April 23rd.
Also due for a Motions hearing today is 25-year-old Brady DiStefano, who was charged in the death of Caleb Zweig, an IUP fraternity brother, in February of 2017. He and Zweig got into a fight and Zweig died at Indiana Regional Medical Center. Then-President Judge William Martin dismissed homicide and aggravated assault charges in the case because of insufficient evidence, but state Superior Court reversed a part of the ruling, allowing the aggravated assault charge to be reinstated. Then after Martin ruled that the jury could not hear evidence that DiStefano’s role in the fight led to Zweig’s death, nor could it hear testimony from the forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy, Superior Court overruled again.
Jury selection for Zweig’s trial is scheduled to start March 20th.
