After picking up wins prior to the NCAA winter break, the IUP men’s basketball team emerged as the new leader in the NABC/Division II Coaches poll, according to IUP Athletics.
Along with their wins over Kutztown and West Chester, the Crimson Hawks’ promotion was aided by Emporia State’s win over Northwest Missouri State on December 17.
This marks the first time IUP holds the No. 1 ranking in the NABC poll in the 1995-96 season.
Following them at No. 2 is Nova Southeastern, then Black Hills comes in at No. 3. Hillsdale and Missouri-St. Louis round out the top five.
Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team announced that two transfer guards from Robert Morris will join the program prior to Friday’s game against Millersville.
Joining IUP are sophomores Jazmyne DeShields and Janeira Scott.
DeShields is a Memphis native, who was named All-District First Team and All-Region Second Team at North Stafford High School. With Robert Morris, she made 12 appearances in 2021-22.
Scott, a native of Bridgeville, Del., played in one game for Robert Morris in 2021-22. She also attended Woodbridge and helped them to four consecutive Division II titles.
Both the IUP men’s and women’s teams return to action Friday night as they head to Millersville for a doubleheader.
