Indiana County over the next 3 days is expected to see some very strong winter weather.
The county is under a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service until noon today.
Wet snow is expected between now and noon, with accumulations up to an inch of snow and up to a tenth of an inch of ice. After that, high wind and wind chill watches will be in effect for our area from 3:00 a.m. Friday to 7:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve. The extreme cold temperatures that are expected on Friday could cause some significant health problems.
Dr. Nathaniel Krieger of the IRMC Emergency Department says that some of the problems with severe cold weather are not just physical, but mental as well.
With the extreme cold, Krieger recommends that if kids want to go out and play in the snow, that they do so for limited periods of time.
