UPDATE: Penelec reports that as of 10:10 this morning, power was restored to all residents in Center Township that lost power due to the storms. Small outages remain in Smicksburg Borough and West Wheatfield Township, but those should be restored by 11:30 at the latest.
WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
Many people in Center Township are waking up without power this morning due to the strong storms that came through the area last night.
Penelec has reported that the main outage in Center Township is near the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Lucernemines and is affecting 263 of its customers. Penelec also reported a major outage in the Blairsville area, with 518 customers without power last night. Power was restored to that area in the overnight hours. REA Energy reports that over 700 of their cooperative members had power go out last night. Power has since been restored for REA customers.
Most of the outages were due to the strong thunderstorms that came in the area around 8:00 last night. For those in Center Township, Penelec crews are still working to restore power, with power expected to be restored by 11:00 this morning.
