On Wednesday morning, the Indiana County Commissioners approved an ordinance concerning a new general obligation loan.
The loan for $3,575,000 will go through First Commonwealth Bank at a rate of 3.55 percent over a 15 year time span. The money from this bond issue will go towards the various planned improvements at county facilities, including new roofing at some county buildings, a new security system and boilers at the county jail, and new boilers and HVAC upgrades at the courthouse.
In other business, the board also authorized a grant application for $251,180.05. The money from the Pennsylvania Department of State would be used for election integrity-related measures, including security and transparency costs for pre-canvassing and canvassing, printing of ballots, payment of staff at polling places on election day and training costs, secure prep, transportation, storage and management of voting apparatuses, tabulation and equipment and required polling place materials among other items.
The commissioners also heard from several concerned individuals who were against a proposed ordinance that would make Indiana County a “Second Amendment Sanctuary County”. Susan Boser of the League of Women Voters said that the league wanted to have some questions answered.
Commissioners Chairman Mike Keith said that the language of the ordinance was still under consideration and there has been no additional discussion or advancement made on the ordinance.
