At their meeting this morning, the Indiana County Commissioners got some good news concerning Covid-19 in Indiana County.
The report from Indiana County Emergency Management Director Tom Stutzman said that Indiana County, like all of Western Pennsylvania, remains in a low community level for masking indoors, but Stutzman added that all of western PA is in a high level for community spread.
Stutzman added that for the seven-day period ending on Monday, the county has seen a 7.87 percent decrease in Covid positive cases. In spite of that, Stutzman encouraged everyone to continue to wear masks when necessary and get vaccinated and keep up with the booster shots.
In other business, the commissioners approved grant awards for the county probation department. $6700 will go to the drug treatment court and another $6025 will go to the veterans treatment court. However, the commissioners tabled a motion concerning the highway safety education project grant. This is part of a five-county program that analyzes crash data, and determines how much money will go to the counties for safety issues. Commissioner Robin Gorman said that she would have to abstain her vote, and Commissioner Sherene Hess was absent from this morning’s meeting, so the motion to table was approved to allow the matter to come before the full board of commissioners at a later date.
The Commissioners also proclaimed May as Foster Care Month and Correctional Officers Appreciation month, and they also issued a proclamation for EMS Week, which was May 15th to the 21st.
