Law enforcement officials in Indiana Borough and with the State Police are getting ready for anything as IUPatty’s is expected to bring an increased amount of police activity.
At its meeting earlier this week, the Indiana Area Collaborative Team said that there was very little social media activity connected with parties this weekend, and earlier today, Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl confirmed that social media activity was just as quiet, but he said that there are lot of other factors at play when it comes to unsanctioned celebrations like IUPatty’s, but they are ready to follow the plans that they do have in place.
Crews from Indiana Borough’s police force will be assisted by the State Police throughout the weekend. State Troopers will have assistance from surrounding state police stations along with the mounted patrol unit, the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement and additional department resources today through the 27th. In fact, in a news release, state police reminds people that it is illegal for someone to intentionally or knowingly taunt, tease or hurt a police animal, and that it is considered a third-degree felony. Troopers will actively patrol neighborhoods and highways so that they are able to quickly investigate any reported incidents.
Chief Schawl encourages people to report any suspicious behavior to police as soon as they can.
