Marion Center, Plumville, Creekside and Clymer fire departments, the county HAZMAT team and Citizens’ Ambulance were initially dispatched to a two story aluminum-sided house at 4:50 AM for the fire at 6559 Route 119 in Rayne Township near Keith Specialty Supply. When the first crews arrived, fire and heavy smoke was found in the basement area. The fire had spread through an interior wall and the floor to the first floor of the house. Because of the quick response of firefighters, much of the home is salvageable. Crews remained on the scene to help with overhaul and ventilation efforts. Marion Center fire officials say that the cause was electrical in nature from the furnace.
Officials added that the sub-zero temperatures did make things difficult for firefighters, so they are appreciative of the other fire departments providing assistance, and to Greg Short of Home, who provided hot chocolate to the firefighters.
