The PA Senate on Monday approved a draft Congressional map for Pennsylvania.
The map adjusts Pennsylvania’s congressional districts for the U.S. House of Representatives per the results of the 2020 census. In the map approved yesterday, Indiana would be a part of a district that would include Cambria, Clearfield, Armstrong, Jefferson, Clarion, Forest, Warren, McKean, Elk, Cameron, and Center Counties along with parts of Butler, Blair and Potter Counties.
The map was passed by a mostly party-line vote of 29-20. Senator Joe Pittman voted in favor of the plan.
He said that he felt the map was fair in making sure the population was divided evenly, and kept Indiana and neighboring Armstrong Counties together.
Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa opposed the map because he felt that it was unfairly gerrymandered towards Republicans.
It will now head to Governor Wolf’s Desk, but the Governor has given indications that he would veto the map, calling it “highly skewed”. If he does veto it, redistricting would then become the responsibility of state judges.
