No fire was reported, but the Indiana County HAZMAT team joined first responders as they responded to an incident at a building on IUP’s campus.
The call went out last night at 6:49 PM at a location on Oakland Avenue later revealed to be Weyendt Hall on IUP’s campus. Indiana Fire Association and IUP Police were called out last night to assist on-scene and investigate the reported fire. Assistant chief Ron Moreau said that the fire alarms were set off because of a broken steam pipe in the building, but the main concern was if there was a fire in the chemical room of the science building.
The building was later turned back over to IUP to affect repairs to the broken pipe. No injuries were reported.
