Workers will not be on the job today at the few remaining road construction sites in Indiana County, so a couple of traffic issues will wait until tomorrow to take effect.
One of them will be a permanent traffic pattern change at the westbound ramp at the intersection of Routes 56 and 22 in Armagh. That three-way intersection has been operating as an “all-way stop: since the traffic signal was damaged in April of last year. The new traffic pattern taking effect tomorrow will make free-flow traffic on 56 with a flashing yellow caution light, and a mandatory stop coming off the ramp onto 56, with a flashing red light. The effect is that all traffic coming off Route 22 must stop before entering Route 56, where traffic flow will be continuous.
There is another change coming tomorrow to the traffic pattern on Route 119 in the Three Bridges Project in Homer City and Center Township. Southbound traffic will be switched back to the southbound travel lane only, eliminating the current cross-over configuration. Northbound traffic will continue using the northbound travel lane only. The passing lanes in both directions will be closed as work continues on the median for winter preparations.
The $15.25 million Three Bridges Project began in June of last year. It includes the elimination of the bridges over Tide Road and an abandoned private railroad, the reconfiguration of Tide Road to become an intersection with 119, the widening and rebuilding of 119 through the construction area, and a new traffic signal for the intersection of 119 and Route 56.
