The official national holiday to commemorate Veterans Day is today, but the traditional Veterans Day was yesterday, which happened to be the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
At IUP, close to one hundred people turned out yesterday morning for the unveiling of a new monument honoring veterans of Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. The monument project was spearheaded by IUP’s student military honor fraternity, Rho Tau Chi, which is comprised mostly of ROTC members. The fraternity put together yesterday’s program. The monument is outside of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building.
Among the Veterans Day activities today are breakfasts for vets and both the Indiana Elks and American Legion, and the traditional parade in downtown Indiana, which steps off at 10:30 AM.
