Coach Mike Tomlin says the Steelers have the depth to replace wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who will have surgery for a dislocated shoulder today and most likely miss the rest of the season. He was injured in the first quarter of Sunday’s win over Denver.
Tomlin says there is an opportunity for young players such as Ray-Ray McCloud and Cody White to step in and establish themselves as quality NFL receivers.
The Steelers signed former Bears and Texans receiver Anthony Miller to the practice squad to replace Smith-Schuster on the roster.
Tomlin says one advantage the receiving corps will have is the mentorship of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who has seen a lot of receivers in his 18 years as the team’s QB.
Tomlin said injured wide receiver James Washington, linebacker Devin Bush, cornerback Cam Sutton, and defensive lineman Carlos Davis could all be available on Sunday against Seattle, depending on the amount and quality of their play in practice this week. The same goes for tackle Zach Banner and running back Anthony McFarlin, who are both coming off of injured reserve.
