A proposed deer management plan for White’s Woods was discussed at the township supervisors meeting Wednesday night.
On hand for the discussion was Carly Greene, Recreation Director for Murraysville, to give perspective on the success of their deer management plan as it has inspired the White Township Plan. One major part of the plan that has attracted a lot of attention is allowing bowhunters to hunt deer in White’s Woods during certain times of the year. Greene said she got the chance to tour White’s Woods today and she felt a deer management plan like Murraysville’s would work for White Township.
In a related matter, Recreation Department Director Ryan Shaffer suggested that the township hold a Deer Management Open House where people can bring their concerns to deer management experts in the fields of forestry, wildlife biology, the PA Game Commission and other groups. The supervisors gave their approval to hold the event at S&T Bank Arena on a proposed date of October 21st.
Finally, the township authorized nominating Bill Simmons for the 2021 Small Town America Civic Volunteer Award from CivicPlus. The award honors public service in municipalities with fewer than 25,000 residents. Simmons was nominated for his work with the Indiana Fire Association for over 40 years, including 20 as the association’s president.
