Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. has released the name of the man who was shot to death in an apparent domestic dispute Friday night in Burrell Township.
Overman says 26-year-old Matthew Hill of Ridgeview Circle, Blairsville died of a gunshot wound to the head suffered at an apartment at 50 Barnview Circle.
State police were dispatched to the apartment at about 8 o’clock Friday night. There, they learned that Hill had been taken by ambulance to IRMC, where the coroner says he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Police took into custody 28-year-old Matraca Lynn Vrana, who they say shot Hill with a rifle during their dispute. Vrana has a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 20th before District Judge Christopher Welch on four felony charges: criminal homicide, voluntary manslaughter (with a notation of provocation from the victim), aggravated assault, and discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure.
Vrana has a recent criminal history in both Indiana and Westmoreland counties, including recent cases in which she was accused of trying to help her then-boyfriend, David McGinnis of Bolivar, smuggle drugs into the Westmoreland County Prison; and an Indiana County case in which she pleaded guilty to drug possession. She’d been present in a hotel in Burrell Township when McGinnis and another man struggled over a gun during a drug deal and the gun had fired, grazing McGinnis.
