WEST SHAMOKIN GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH FRANK NAGY RESIGNS

West Shamokin girls’ varsity basketball head coach Frank Nagy announced in a Facebook post yesterday that he will be resigning from his position.

Nagy led West Shamokin to a 60-37 overall record and a 53-21 record in the Heritage Conference since taking over the program at the beginning of the 2016-17 season. He also helped lead the Wolves to a 2017 Heritage Conference championship, where they beat the Homer-Center Wildcats, 42-32.

That led to district and state playoff appearances, and even a spot in the 2017 PIAA Girls AAA Championship game, where they fell just short of Bishop Canevin, 43-39.

This year, the Wolves clinched a District VI Quarterfinal appearance.

In his post, Nagy said he was blessed to be the coach in his home community and he thanked students, parents and staff at West Shamokin for the support over the years.

Below is Frank Nagy’s Facebook post, announcing his resignation:

I know many have heard this already but I wanted to be sure to address it for those that haven’t. In an extremely difficult decision, I have decided to resign as the varsity girls basketball coach. With the addition of our daughter Nova this summer and Kanin getting to an age being more involved in things, I believe it is a good time for me to step away from coaching at this time. For how long I don’t know but I can say that God willing, this is a temporary resignation and not a retirement.

6 short years ago I was blessed to be offered the head coaching position after meeting with Mr. Blystone, Mr. Treglia and Dr. Shutters. At that time had you told me how much I would have learned from and the relationships I gained with our girls and coaches, I wouldn’t have thought it possible. I have been able to spend this time with great coaches and players that have given everything they could for our program and that doesn’t happen everywhere.

I have been able to coach in my home community and work with the youth and families that I see on a daily basis and for that I am beyond thankful. I have been a part of things and gained memories that I never dreamed of when I got into coaching and that is attributed to the players I have had the pleasure of coaching and the values instilled in them.

I have watched the current JH/JV/Varsity girls grow through elementary school in our youth program and know how bright the future is. It’s a fantastic group of girls and I can’t wait to watch them grow as a team and see what the future holds for them.

Thank you all for the amazing support over the years and I look forward to seeing that continue for our girls!
