Friends of White’s Woods are saying that while a recent injunction was denied in court, their mission to stop a plan to rid the wooded area of invasive plant species and dead trees was successful.
At the center of the issue was a plan by Millstone Land Management that was approved by White Township Supervisors on March 11th, 2020. Friends of Whites Woods maintained that the work proposed by Millstone would cause irreparable damage to the area. One part of the lawsuit filed by the group alleged violations of the second class township code on bidding. Judge Martin deemed that the services Millstone provided, both consultation and actual work, were not subject to the bidding process. A third part of the injunction claimed that a decision was made in executive session. That point was rendered moot as the decision was voted on a second time in a public meeting.
Sara King, President of Friends of Whites Woods, said that in March, before the injunction was ruled on, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources had rejected the project, saying that they had the final say on project 70 lands. She said she was happy with the overall result.
We reached out to White Township and were told that the supervisors would make comment at their meeting at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon.
