The Pirates gave up the lead, but took it right back in the 7th inning last night as they beat the White Sox in the opener of a two-game series.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Derek Shelton says the Bucs played a good all-around game.
Shelton says Adam Frazier’s swing mechanics are outstanding.
Shelton says it’s been a great week for David Bednar’s entire family.
Frazier says it was good to have things finally come together last night.
For Bednar, a graduate of Mars High School, getting his first MLB win as a member of the Pirates is a dream come true.
Bednar’s brother, Will, is a redshirt freshman pitching for Mississippi State in the College World Series. He struck out 15 in a 2-1 win over Texas Sunday night and is expected to go high in the MLB Draft next month.
The series concludes this afternoon at PNC Park. Chase De Jong (0-1, 4.26 ERA) faces Chicago’s Dylan Cease (5-3, 3.99 ERA). 12:10 airtime, 12:35 first pitch on WCCS.
