Earlier today, Governor Tom Wolf joined democratic representatives in a forum to discuss environmental and economic benefits brought forth from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, also known as RGGI.
Senator Carolyn Comitta and State Representative Dianne Herrin talked about their plans to introduce Senate Bill 15 and House Bill 1565 that would go towards taking proceeds from RGGI and putting them towards communities impacted by climate change.
Senator Comitta details what the two bills will target.
Gov. Wolf said that labor and business groups are on par with the state joining RGGI, citing that power plant workers in Pennsylvania will receive aid during the transition, something that employees at power plants in Ohio did not have access to by not joining the initiative.
According to a news release, RGGI states were found to return $2.31 billion in lifetime energy savings to more than 161,000 households in a time span of six years.
