The Indiana girls shocked #2 seed Latrobe yesterday, 7-6 in the Class 5A playoffs as freshman Olivia Zimmerman cracked a two-run homer in the top of the 6th inning. Her sister, senior Sara Zimmerman had three hits and also homered. Laura Carloni smacked a 2-run double in the 4th after Indiana scored two runs on bases-loaded walks in the third.Olivia Zimmerman struck out 15 in the game for Indiana, which plays #1 Armstrong next, tomorrow afternoon.
HERITAGE CONFERENCE
The Blairsville Bobcats knew they had a challenge going into yesterday’s game against Marion Center. They were playing the top-ranked softball team in the state, a team which had shut them out, 7-0, six weeks ago, and the team that stood in the way of their making it into the Heritage Conference softball championship game.
The Bobcats broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the six, scoring two runs, and then escaped the seventh inning for a 5-4 win, handing the Stingers their first loss of the season and earning their shot at the title, and it’s against Marion Center again, tonight in Northern Cambria.
It was the eighth straight win for Blairsville. Tori Foust hit a home run and drove in three for the Bobcats and Brin Gardner also homered and drove in 2. Hannah Foust struck out 6 and allowed 6 hits for Blairsville in the victory.
