Today is the 29th annual Oldies Attic “Turkey-Thon” on (our affiliate) WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM.
The purpose of the Turkey-Thon will help out two causes: The United Way of Indiana County and several locations that will serve a hot thanksgiving dinner for those who are less fortunate. Bill Otto of the Oldies Attic said the idea started when he was the chairperson for the annual United Way campaign and he wanted a way to get the public involved in raising funds for the United Way, as the main fundraising option for the campaign was employee-donation programs at area businesses.
In that first year, $5000 was raised. The fundraiser has grown since then, and this year, several area grocers help out by donating not just turkeys, but food cards as well. This year, the turkeys and food cards will be distributed to the Salvation Army, Homer City Food Bank, The Community Kitchen in Dixonville, Deacon’s Food Pantry in Blairsville, the Chevy Chase Community Center, and two veterans-based organizations. Plus, the money you donate will go to the United Way of Indiana County as they help fifteen member organizations in Indiana County.
To make a donation, call the Oldies Attic at 724-479-1160 or 724-349-WCCS from 9-noon today.
