Several preliminary hearings are set for Indiana County Court today, including one for an Indiana man accused of beating two children.
Court documents say that 27-year-old Quamir Mathis will go before District Judge Guy Haberl today for his preliminary hearing on two counts each of felony endangering the welfare of children and misdemeanor simple assault for an incident Indiana Borough Police started to investigate on February 27th. In December, Indiana Borough Police filed charges Mathis and 28-year-old Amber Bailey, also of Indiana. Police said that two children, both under the age of 4, were beaten with a belt, and Mathis and Bailey left the children alone on multiple occasions.
Bailey was due for a preliminary hearing yesterday on a single count of Endangering the Welfare of Children. Court documents say a bench warrant was issued for her and charges were held for court. Mathis is scheduled to have his hearing today at 1:45 PM
Also due for a preliminary hearing before Judge Haberl today is Grant Stanford Schrecengost. The 24-year-old man from Indiana is facing misdemeanor charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct-engaging in fighting along with two summary counts in connection with an incident on November 22nd, when he was picked up by police in the 400 block of Standard Avenue. When he was taken to IRMC for jail clearance, he allegedly attacked a staff member.
