A vote to override a bill that Governor Tom Wolf vetoed that would effectively end the Coronavirus emergency order failed to gain the two-thirds majority needed to pass.
In the state house yesterday, the vote came down to 118 in favor of overriding the governor’s veto of an amendment to House Resolution 836 and 84 against it. As it is a vote to override a veto, a two-thirds majority of the state house is required, and the vote fell 18 votes shy of the required 136 votes needed. During debate on the house floor, House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff said Wolf’s Covid-19 disaster declaration is no longer needed.
Minority leader Frank Dermody said that if the veto override went through, it would cost the state $2 million in federal aid.
Indiana County State Representatives Jim Struzzi, Cris Dush, and Jeff Pyle all voted in favor of overriding the veto.
We’ll hear from Struzzi later this morning on Indiana in the Morning at 8:45 on WCCS.
