BASEBALL
Homer-Center’s Dom Shimko threw a complete-game three-hit shutout, striking out seven in a 10-0 win over Penns Manor. Braden Dunn, Collin Dunn, Nate Birchall and Drew Fisher each had two hits for the Wildcats, with Fisher collecting two doubles and Rado and Braden Dunn also hitting doubles.
Northern Cambria is still undefeated in the conference but had to hold off a United rally to win, 9-8. Brad Valeria was 4-for-4, all singles, and drove in three runs for the Colts. Zack Cavallo had two hits. Ryan Felix had three hits, including a double and triple for the Lions. Peyton McElwee and Cole McGinnis each had two hits.
A six-run second inning helped Purchase Line to an 8-5 win over River Valley. The Red Dragons’ Coby Byers led the way with three hits and two RBIs. Caden Vresilovec had three hits, and Gavin Burkhart, Eric Dinger, Zeke Doak and Chase Stuchal all had two for the Panthers.
Conemaugh Valley nipped Portage, 7-6.
Conemaugh Township got by Cambria Heights, 6-4.
SOFTBALL
Homer-Center clipped Penns Manor, 7-6, in ten innings. The Comets scored two in the bottom of the seventh to force extras. Homer-Center’s Khylee Beer had a big day at the plate with a two-run double and a run-scoring triple. Melanie George, Ava King, Jo Howard, and Kaylee Booth all had two hits as well for the Wildcats. Josslyn Bennett had two hits and three walks for the Comets and Sidney Hrubochak also had two hits.
River Valley edged Purchase Line, 5-4. Maddie Twincheck had three hits and Izabella Speal and Ashlee Pynos each had two for the Panthers. Brooklynn Walker and Bella Cessna both had two hits for the Red Dragons.
Northern Cambria routed United, 14-2. Megan Lubert doubled and tripled and drove in two. Makayla Forbert and Sarah Abel also had two hits for NC.
Portage held off a Conemaugh Valley rally to beat the Blue Jays, 7-6. Kendall Stancovich had two doubles and Adasyn Trusik and Lyndsey Castel also had two hits for the Mustangs.
Cambria Heights clobbered Conemaugh Township, 23-5.
