Coming off a 3-0 shutout loss in New Jersey on Saturday, the Penguins return home to host Philadelphia for an in-state rivalry game. The Flyers are 15-15-5 and sit one point behind the Penguins in the Metro Division, who are 15-15-4. History might be on the Penguins’ side tonight, as they are 6-0-2 with points in each of their last eight home games against the Flyers.
Coach Mike Sullivan said the Penguins failed to capitalize on scoring chances against the Devils and that’s something they can’t afford to do in these crucial Metro games.
Defenseman Owen Pickering will likely be out as he deals with an upper body injury suffered Saturday night against the Devils. Sullivan is expected to provide more details on the former first-round pick’s injury later this afternoon.
After tonight, the Penguins and New York Islanders meet for a home-and-home series this weekend, starting Saturday at UBS Arena, then a road game in Detroit on New Year’s Eve.
Tonight’s game faces off shortly after 7. We’re on the air at 6 on U92.5 FM and U92radio.com.
