The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is welcoming comment from the public concerning grid impacts on high-demand energy growth.
On Thursday, the Commission held an en banc hearing to examine the impact of hyperscale data centers and other large-load energy users on Pennsylvania’s energy grid. Such data centers are expected to be part of the future Homer City Energy Complex. Homer City Redevelopment is working on building a natural-gas-fueled electricity generating facility, where seven turbines are expected to generate power for AI data centers and to provide power to the grid. It’s expected to be the largest natural gas generating facility in the United States.
In a statement, PUC Chairman Stephen DeFrank said that the state is going into a time of “extraordinary electricity demand growth, driven by AI, cloud computing, and other evolving technologies.” He added that the Commission will be thoughtful and transparent through this process of making new policies.
The hearing is available to watch online. Those who want to submit their own testimony can do so by May 27th. Comments can be submitted electronically by opening a free eFiling account through the commission’s website, or by sending a letter to:
